We’re going to be spending our winter vacation up at the “Alm”. What do we need to be aware of if we travel in by car? And what are the toll and parking charges? Thanks, you guys are the best!!!

The toll charge is Euro 12.00 per car, if you don't happen to have a valid ski pass for that day. You do have the option of buying ski passes at the toll station. Night parking charges for the car park at the Tauplitzalm are Euro 4.50 and are collected by parking attendants working for Tauplitzalm Alpine Road.

Is there a map of the cross-country ski trail at the Tauplitzalm on the Internet and is it correct that it costs money to use the trail?

Our new, painted winter panorama also shows the XC trail at the Tauplitz. Cross-country fees at the Alm are * per day/person Euro 5.00 *  for 3 consecutive days Euro 13.00 and per week Euro 28.00 (or Euro 10 with Guest Card)

In other ski areas, snowcats are out on the slopes all day long. In 12 days, I came across the snowcat on the Lawinenstein just once, that is clearly too little!

Our slopes are groomed in the evening, including days when it snows, and again in the morning after around 4 o'clock until the start of the ski day and, in some instances, until one hour after. When slopes are open for skiing, we cannot drive on the hillsides since, in recent years, there have been numerous serious injuries caused by collisions between skiers or snowboarders and heavy equipment. In fact, 2 years go, a skier in Wagrain was actually killed in such a collision! During the day, the skiers themselves compress any new snow that may have fallen. Thank you for understanding our situation!

A new feeder cable lift by the Hollhaus car park makes it even faster to get to the slopes. Where does the feeder lift actually take you?

The new, longer cable lift replaces the older North lift (please check out our slope map), and runs from the Hollhaus car park to the ski run (not to the Hollhaus).

Heard that the Krallersee hill is now going to be groomed. But isn’t it the many variant-skiing options that make the Tauplitz so attractive?

  1. Most of the Krallersee eastern slope will remain a variant option as it has been up to now, a moguls-style run in other words. An area about 15 meters-wide will be groomed, under appropriate snow conditions, whilst the entire Krallersee eastern slope is actually several hundred meters wide. In powder (deep-snow) conditions, this is left to the skiers’ devices and, of course, not groomed immediately. I think we have created an opportunity for our guests to enjoy a truly custom-tailored skiing experience.
  2. By dismantling the Krallersee tow lift, we have gained additional skiing space, upgrading the former lift line for skiing purposes. In deep snow, we do initially leave this area untouched for the enjoyment of off-piste skiers; only when the area gets roughed up do we move in with our winch groomers. In so doing, we are continuing our proven approach from the Schneiderkogel. We were pleased to receive your comment, since it brings up the natural highlights of the Tauplitz. There’s barely another hill in the Eastern Alps that can measure up to the Krallersee eastern slope in terms of sporting challenges. The rest of the hill, outside of the area of the former tow lifts, will continue not to be groomed, as our COO, Mr. Huber, has confirmed. Our tip: Check out the new Krallersee eastern slope for yourself! In deep snow, this hill is not groomed and left for the enjoyment of skiers and boarders. The full breadth of the Krallersee eastern slope (more than 100 m) is ridable, and only 20 m of this will ever actually be groomed, while the remainder will remain a moguls run. This hill will definitely remain a highly selective opportunity.

Isn’t it a bit risky on your part to promote the fun of off-piste skiing? Does anybody even inspect those open areas – and what if something happens?

It’s no big secret that DIE TAUPLITZ – which is a ski area above the tree line – greets skiers with a wide variety of different routes away from the regular pistes. Those ROUTES ARE NOT REGULAR SKI SLOPES that are groomed, inspected and monitored: Skiers take on those routes at their own risk! This is something that is well known and we don’t carry any additional info on our website.

How do you get to the alpine cross-country trails?

You can reach the alpine XC trail either on the 10 km-long Tauplitzalm Alpine Road (a toll road) via Bad Mitterndorf, in which case the trail access is right next to the car park at 1600 m above sea level, or ride up both sections of the quad chairlift (4 km long, all-weather bubbles) from the village of Tauplitz, with trail access in this instance close to the mountain terminal at 1650 meters. The alpine trail undulates gently, designed with no major climbs or drops, through larch forest in parts, but mostly in open countryside on the Tauplitzalm high plateau. Give it a shot yourself, and enjoy this fantastic natural setting!

What are the prospects of a better connection to the valley run which drops to Tauplitz? Actually, the slopes from the lift mid station would be a great ride, if it just didn’t take so much effort getting there on skis. Is there no better way to get the

How are snow conditions at the beginning of April?

A normal winter at the Tauplitzalm brings us about 12 to 15 meters of precipitation in the form of snow. This sticks and accumulates so that, by the end of March, we have around 3.5 to 4 meters of snow on the ground. The Tauplitzalm has a northerly exposure, making large amounts of snow quite normal. At the beginning of April, you will encounter everything from "firn" snow to fresh powder. In other words, you can always count on good snow conditions until the end of the season.
