panoramic views, Alpine playground, hundreds of peaks
.
When you arrive at the Tauplitzalm and begin walking through those flower-strewn alpine meadows alongside the six lakes, you can barely imagine what it will look like farther up into the mountains: Yet as soon as you turn off onto the trail for your chosen mountain tour, you will be amazed how quickly the scenery changes: rocky steps, craggy cliffs, distinctive summits, 360° panoramic views of hundreds of mountains all around you. Imposing karst landscapes and the many characteristic sinkholes. All in all: heart-stirring!
The mountainsides flanking the Tauplitz are essentially alpine playgrounds for experienced hikers – and chamois. Which you may well encounter on occasion. The flora and fauna of this mountain landscape are unique, as are the panoramic views of the valley and hundreds of surrounding peaks. Some of the mountains or even legendary: the Sturzhahn, for example, became famous as the favorite summit of mountaineering icon Heinrich Harrer. And in fact, this 2031 m high mountain was first climbed by him – together with Kurt Wallenfells, via the 200 m tall west face. That said, you can enjoy the irresistible appeal of this rocky world during summit tours of the Kleines and Grosses Tragl as well as the Rosskogel. Beautiful destinations also await you during the Gnanitztour, during which you will hike past larch forests and the legendary Sagtümpel pond. In the course of an extended mountain tour to Hinterstoder, on the other hand, you will ascend through fields of scree, your efforts rewarded by marvelous views of Stodertal far below.
After exerting yourself on the mountain, you will definitely work up an appetite and need something good on your stomach. Happily, our hut hosts in the region know precisely what will “hit the spot” for our mountaineering heroes. You will regularly encounter huts alongside the hiking paths. Many of them also serve up impressive panoramas to accompany their food, along with Styrian-style hospitality that comes straight from the heart.
All of the mountain tours described here are challenging and only intended for experienced hikers. Surefootedness is essential. Due to the many sinkholes, always stay on marked trails and keep your eyes open for potential hazards on the mountain. Watchfulness is key when you are out and about in nature.
