This tour greets you with a “light” version of the Tauplitz experience, yetfilled with all the variety you could possibly wish for: You will walk across the sunny plateau along safe, well-maintained paths that are even suitable for prams and wheelchairs. Constantly accompanied by natural beauty, including mountain lakes, breathtaking scenery, meadows full of rhododendron, gentian and an array of other alpine flowers. We suggest standing still and pausing every now and then in order to truly savor the unique alpine landscape.
pram- and wheelchair-accessible
You will walk from the mountain terminal of the quad chairlift along the country path heading west – passing the Hollhaus and coming to the Krallersee. This is a dark, shimmering moorland lake at the foot of the Lawinenstein, on the shores of which the dragonflies put on a spectacular display in summertime. As you circle this romantic biotope, you might even hear the frogs put on a concert for you. Then, you will walk past Hotel Hierzegger back to idyllic Tauplitzalm village, before continuing in an easterly direction. We recommend making a short detour to the small mountain church – with its colorful stained-glass windows, it is an ideal place to pause and reflect. Now, hike along the nicely surfaced country lane – above Tauplitzsee – turning left at the Sterngassl, finally coming to the Steirersee-Bankerl, a popular lookout point. Here, we suggest taking a break and gazing out at the legendary Sturzhahn, a peak first conquered by mountaineering icon Heinrich Harrer. When you have finished taking in the glorious scenery, you can hike back along the same route to the mountain lift terminal.
If you are out and about in the fresh mountain air, you are certain to work up an appetite – in Tauplitzalm village, you will discover several different eateries that offer table-side service and heartfelt Styrian hospitality.
