Moving: Mountain biking and cycling on the Tauplitzalm

Family-friendly, enjoyable, free bike transport

If you love your bike, take it with you on a lift ride up to the Tauplitzalm. As a passenger on the quad chairlift, you can bring it with you for free. Once at the top, you can look forward to easy, family-friendly and utterly enjoyable rides between flower-strewn alpine meadows and silent lakes – no major physical exertion required, though accompanied by countless panoramic views and clear mountain air

If you wish, you can also enjoy the beauty of the Tauplitzalm – incidentally, with its six lakes, the biggest lake plateau in Central Europe – by bicycle: in early summer, the alpine meadows flanking the safe bike paths are transformed into an iridescent sea of flowers. While in autumn, the countless larch trees on the surrounding mountainsides are adorned in shimmering golden tones. There is no shortage of panoramic views of the surrounding peaks either, while your lungs will be filled by the clean mountain air. As you pedal along, you will soon notice: A single day on the Tauplitz is as reinvigorating as an entire extended weekend spent elsewhere.

Cycling across the Tauplitz plateau

Setting out from the mountain terminal of the quad chairlift on the Tauplitzalm, you will begin your leisurely ride across this sunny high plateau, either on paved or, in some cases, dirt roads – roughly 5 km in total, amid idyllic and gently undulating alpine countryside, with few climbs of note and no major physical exertion necessary. To enhance your enjoyment, you will encounter refreshment opportunities every hundred meters or so, where you will be served fragrant coffee, homemade desserts or hearty meals. Later, you can simply cruise by bike down the road leading all the way to Bad Mitterndorf. and ride back to the valley station in Tauplitz via the "Salzkammergut Radweg R19".

On the Salzkammergut Bike Path back to the valley station of the quad chairlift

You can now continue your ride along the Salzkammergut Bike Path “R 19” – through the broad and sunny valley of Bad Mitterndorf, at the foot of the “Kulm”, the world’s biggest natural ski jump, surrounded by views of impressive alpine summits. The gently undulating countryside extends out before you, with only minor climbs and no major effort required on mainly paved paths. A perfect opportunity, in other words, to explore the region. After roughly 10 km, you will arrive at the valley station of the quad chairlift.

Tip

You can spare yourself the strenuous climb up to the Tauplitzalm, already beginning your biking expedition at 1650 m above sea level. Leave your vehicle parked at the big car park in Tauplitz, then float – effortlessly and environmentally friendly – by chairlift up to Tauplitzalm village. Our friendly staff will be happy to help you get on and off the lifts, while your bicycle even rides along for free!
