Ski Touring on the Tauplitzalm

New ski touring path

Thanks to the invaluable efforts of our local tourism community as well as ski tourers themselves, we have some great news to report:

Since winter season 2019/20, there is a new and clearly marked ski-touring route from Bad Mitterndorf up to the Tauplitzalm. It is open to tourers whenever there is sufficient natural snow on the ground. You are personally responsible for making the right safety decisions and evaluating the avalanche risks. So, take good care of yourself!

ca. 2-hour climb, 820 vertical meters

Thanks to this ski-touring route, beginners and pros are able to explore the glorious winter countryside surrounding Bad Mitterndorf in Ausseerland - Salzkammergut. Once you reach the Tauplitzalm (1650 m), you are rewarded by an inspirational mountain world. The tour takes roughly 2 hours and begins at Gästehaus Gewessler elev. 830 m, in the Zauchen part of Bad Mitterndorf.

Tour Description

The route leads through areas of forest and across narrow bridges. Then, after roughly 30 minutes on the edge of the piste, you will come to the valley station of the Mitterstein gondola. From here, you will pass to the right of the small reservoir, making your way through a series of switchbacks to the “Brentenmöser Alm”. At this point, you will cross the piste and make the climb up to the Tauplitzalm car park. Your tour continues along the forest’s edge until you reach Tauplitzalm village at ca. 1650 m, where you will discover pleasant refreshment opportunities

When you are ready to return to the valley, in the daytime you have two groomed pistes to choose from, to Tauplitz and Bad Mitterndorf – the interactive piste map tells you which of the pistes is currently open.

Don't pistes to climb mountains

Lift companies are responsible for the safety of their skiing guests. Please be keenly aware that head-to-head encounters with ascending ski tourers can lead to dangerous situations and are therefore prohibited here with us.

Our pistes are closed from 5 PM – 9 AM

From 5 PM – 9 AM, our pistes are closed to winter sports fans. During this time, snowcats are being winched across the pistes, avalanche-blasting takes place and snow cannons are in operation. Consequently, use of the pistes and ski routes is extremely hazardous and therefore prohibited. Ski-touring ascents by means of our pistes are prohibited for your own safety.

Alpine ski touring in the Totes Gebirge

You will find some ski-touring alternatives in the Totes Gebirge mountains. If you ride up on the Tauplitz quad chairlift it will save you a lot of climbing. Ski touring is at your own risk. For your own safety, we strongly recommend visiting the www.lawine-steiermark.at website beforehand. Take good care of yourself!
