feelings of freedom on the highest lake plateau in Europe
Gamsblick via ferrata, alpine tours for expert hikers, easy walks for those in search of a more laid-back expedition, and an eco-friendly ride up on the quad chairlift. A jaw-dropping natural spectacle, impressive panoramic views, clean mountain air and feelings of freedom included.
The Tauplitz lies in the heart of Austria, in the Ausseerland – Salzkammergut region, and, at an elevation of 1650 m, is actually the highest lake plateau in Central Europe. The six lakes on the Tauplitzalm are lined up like a string of glistening mirrors – crystal-clear or shimmering darkly – alongside the hiking routes, inviting you to discover refreshment for body, mind and soul. Surrounded by high meadows abloom with purple rhododendron, velvety blue gentian, hellebore, Carthusian pink and a panoply of other alpine flowers. In autumn, on the other hand, the larch trees on the mountainsides are adorned in golden tones. No matter where you look, and especially if you decide to take the 6-Lakes Hike, on the Tauplitzalm, your heart will overflow with a sense of pure joy!“
The Tauplitz is also famous for its impressive 360° panoramas: the mighty Grimming, the glaciated Dachstein massif, the craggy mountainsides of the Totes Gebirge and the peaks of the Niedere Tauern: all right there in front of your nose – an astonishing natural spectacle! A unique array of iconic mountain personalities also await you on the Gamsblick via ferrata, and during your mountain tours, hiking paths and walks on and around the Tauplitz: the legendary Sturzhahn, the Traweng, Rosskogel and Almkogel, the Kleines and Grosses Tragl, and the Lawinenstein, which, with its flat summit plateau, is perched like a balcony high above the Ausseerland - Salzkammergut, simultaneously marking the center of the region.
The Tauplitzalm lies at 1650 m above sea level, where the air is clean and the climate invigorating: Here, everyone can take a deep breath – including allergy-sufferers and people with bronchial complaints. You will also discover abundant sunshine on the Tauplitz along with refreshing mountain lakes sure to invigorate body and soul (if you dare to take a dip!). The clarity of air and water, the soothing green countryside, impressive panoramic views and endless skies – a few days at the Tauplitz are as beneficial as any two-week vacation spent at some far-flung location.
The hiking trails and footpaths on the Tauplitzalm are safe, well-maintained and nicely surfaced, in some cases even suitable for prams and wheelchairs. Our mountaineering tours for experienced hikers, on the other hand, demand surefootedness. And whenever you are out and about in the outdoors, of course, you are bound to work up an appetite as well. Fortunately, our hut hosts know precisely what our mountaineering heroes and nature lovers like to eat. They serve up an irresistible selection of hearty meals, while the atmosphere at their huts is cheerful and convivial. Incidentally: We suggest leaving your vehicle parked on the big car park in Tauplitz – then enjoy a pleasant, eco-friendly ride on the quad chairlift up to idyllic Tauplitzalm village. As the array of iconic mountain personalities glide past you, you can already anticipate: On the Tauplitz, you are going to be able to hike to your heart’s content. And we can’t wait to see you here!
There is no need to sweat all the way up the mountain, thanks to the quad chairlift. In fact, the lifts will be happy to transport your bike, pram and four-legged friend up to our idyllic alpine village as well. Incidentally: prams and bikes are free, while you pay just € 4 for your dog. It doesn’t get any more convenient than that!
